soccer-ball.jpgThe truth is you can’t. Not if you’re playing somebody’s game.

My blogging guru Costa wrote an interesting piece. I always enjoy Costa’s blog and I felt compelled to add my little 2 cents.

Firstly, when you play somebody’s game, you are forcing yourself into submission to play by the rules of the game. Let’s say Soccer. The winning soccer team is the one that put more balls behind the net. Easy. It would have been had it not stated in the soccer rulebook you have to do it by foot or head. That is the condition.

I cant’ get onto the field and start throwing balls with my hands. I’ll be fouled. I can find another game that I can make good use of my hands and feet but then it won’t be soccer. In all honesty, I can start a whole new ball game and call it hand and feet soccer. I can. But then getting the advertisers and fans to buy it will be another thing.

If I’m into the soccer thing to make money, a winning team, advertisers and fans who are willing to buy the tickets are a factor. They are a factor because this is where the money is. Not from the game itself, but from these people who are part of the soccer system. Rules and all.

Advertisers have no qualms throwing in millions to the winning team, or even players. They know soccer is the best loved game in the world. Advertisers don’t care if the team uses back hand tactics to win the game… as long as they win and they get their money’s worth. The team players can go on steroids for all they care… as long as they don’t get caught.

No offense to ball lovers, let’s say Google invented the game of soccer and the rules, how do you get on the field and play your game without adhering to Google’s rule?

There are two kind of advertisers here. One, they want publicity generated from the massive popularity of the game. Two, advertisers who are illegal pundits that resort to game fixing to win.

Most link buying advertisers are illegal pundits that try to get better of the system by hook or by crook. The interesting part is, they are trying to manipulate the rules and system but they never have the intention of replacing or overthrowing the current rulebook. In other words, these people do not want to do away the system… they want in. But just manipulate it to their advantage.

To me, that is pretty clear. These advertisers are still pretty damn obsess with the system therefore the Google hold continues.

To hell with these advertisers? But, but that’s where the money is… for the regular monetized blogs. Damn.

Google is now being sued for patent rights I think. Their shares price drop drop drop drop drop drop… LOL! I doubt it will be easy to overturn Google. If that happens, must be the biggest upset in the internet for a long time.

Ed - Really? lol The thing is, Google is still very much relevant in advertisers’ agenda. I don’t blame them. It’s purely business. :-)

I love soccer far too much than to bother whether any advertiser wants to sponsor me. If I kick like a guy with two left feet, so be it. Anyway, my Blogsreview was demoted from 4 to 1. I started with nothing and I don’t mind ending with nothing as long as there is much in between.

For us ’suppliers’, we can only provide facts and statistics as to why “you should advertise with me”. The rest is up to the advertisers. Until and unless the advertisers are willing to look beyond the G system, doesn’t seem like we can do much at the receiving end.

Pablo - You’re one gutsy guy. :-) It’s true, the money we’ve made so far is already a blessing. :-)

Shireen - True. The advertisers are the one with the bucks. SInce the advertisers have no intention of doing away with the G rules, there’s nothing we can do. The point I’m trying to say is G will continue to rule as long as the advertisers are still into their game. :-)

Good thoughts behind that post. Just wonder why most of your friends’ blogs are getting hit by Google. Has it really got to do with paid links alone? I’ve seen blogs with paid links and still they are retaining their PRs. No, these are not splogs. They are just like all the other blogs trying to monetize for all it’s worth. I’ve looked around a bit. Could it also be due to “massive” links or what they call meme links on those blogs that got hit? Some of your friends” blogs have very, very long list of links to all kinds of blogs and maybe some splogs. It’s just an observation.

Nickeblue - The PR ban could happen for a variety of reasons. Firtly I don’t do TLA but then nowadays, Google do consider paid posts in the ranks of paid links. It is no secret really, Google is penalizing folks selling links, advertising on their blogs and paid posts. You mentioned blogs with paid links retaining their PR.. I would say it would be a matter of time before Google catches up with them. Honest, from the forum I go to, it has been known Google is declaring war on paid posts and advertising. (except their Adsense)
Not only my friends are hit.. the whole paid posts community are hit… BAD. :-)

I took a 3 point hit, too. I do paid posting. It ticks me off. We can’t do no follow ads or the posts won’t get approved, so we are screwed. But the problem for advertisers is that we won’t be able to do the links, and then they won’t get the extra ratings if we get booted out of google. And if we are booted out of google for linking to them, then we can’t get their ads anymore, and they can’t find bloggers to advertise for them. Everyone is getting stung in this.
I just don’t understand why Google cares? If someone has the links, paid or not, they should be where they are ranked. It isn’t trustworthy ranking if they are putting people’s ranks down artificially. So it means nothing anymore.

I recently came across a new network that is an Adsense alternative known as, Prosperent. You should give it a try as it is very customizable and has a high eCPM. I highly recommend it.
