I just got back from a blogging buddy’s blog and he posted about something that has been on my mind for the past week. I wanted to write about it initially, but I kept putting it off because I thought I’ll deal with it after the New Year. The question I ask myself is, should I continue to keep my blog knowing I’ll never ever again get PR from Google?
Maybe not exactly never ever but then let’s be frank, the chances are slim, OK? This blog is about 6 months’ old and it got slapped by Google with PR0 last month. It was a PR2 then. When I started this blog, I wanted to write about my blogging journey and the obstacles along the way. So I guess this is the place I ought to bring it up. It’s one big obstacle now when I got penalized for doing paidposts.
I’m not going to rant about injustice for what is done is done. It’s the future of this blog I’m looking into. Should I continue to persevere knowing I’ll never get PR no matter how much hardwork and love I put in?
OK, before anyone tell me in the face I’ll make it easy for you. I’ll say what some of you would probably say,
“Aren’t you blogging for yourself? Why would you care for Google’s PR? PR is crap.”
Yep, you’re probably right. But then the scenario is like this.. say you’re doing something you love. You are happy doing it but then other people get paid and get recognition for doing the same thing. You’re not. You get the job satisfaction but not the whole deal. Along the line, you ask yourself why am I just contented with the sense of satisfaction when I can actually have it all?
I do have another new blog which I’m working on. I’m keeping a clean slate and will try to disassociate all my paidpost blogs from it. Call me paranoid, but Google is just as guilty. There are blogs out there getting penalized with PR0 just because the blogger has done paidposts on their other blogs. So, I’m playing safe.
As for this blog, I’ve yet made up my mind. Like I say before, this is a new blog and it is just easier to start from scratch than try salvaging and apologizing to Google. The fact is, getting PR is easier than getting traffic.
What say you?

Hello blog buddy
Actually, that blog is hopeless now as far as PR is concerned but I am not overly concerned about that. My only concern is that new visitors will find that the blog is a bit out of place in its topics and might not want to stay longer. My goal is to retain and build new readers based on the current focus of the blog and the topics of previous posts do stick out like a sore thumb in the midst of recent posts.
When google slapped, I too seek self consolation that PR is nothing as long as I can retain my readers. It still hold true for Ahpek, for I know whatever PR I have will not increase my readers. It is just a number to show off.
However, recently I am beginning to realize why those big timers places such importance on their PR. We know high PR makes it easy for Search Engines to find our blogs, but we never placed much importance on that. We were more keen on getting “stable” traffic. Readers that are loyal and likes our blog for what it is.
Big timers thinks very differently. To them, search traffic is their lifeline. They get more than 20,000 of them daily! They play with their keywords, their tags, and many more. Without that PR, their traffic would be cut off by 60% as their blog will be buried so deep, no one will find them.
I too am beginning to change my mentality towards Search traffic and I think you should too if you are progressing with your “doggie” site. BTW, how is it going? There is an article by Courtney that you should read. It will help you immensely when you launch. Read and digest this article.

I will definitely keep my blog even though mine has gone from 0 to 1, then 2, then 3 then the big fat smackdown 0 . But who cares..after all writing those paid posts are just for the fun and joy of extra $$ and more over that is my one and only blog, keeping too many blogs is not an easy task too.
My advice is if you are not paying for this domain , just leave the blog as it is then who knows one day, the lost PR will come back. We can never tell what the future holds, but if you are paying for the domain, then it will be a different thing altogether.
Anyway enjoy the festive seasons first and forget about blogs and PR.
Have a Blessed Xmas and a Happy and Fruitful New Year.
i’ll keep my blog and continue accepting paid posts - PR+ or none.
what google did (although they are denying it) is rude in all sense, however I don’t care anymore as long as I keep my readership and I continue with blogging what I want to blog.
cheers helen ^^<
happy holidays!
Despite being up for 7 months I have never been anything more than a PR0, so I’m totally used to it. I still get some good 3P posts, and Smorty posts, I’ve stripped every google ad off my site and replaced it with bidvertizer, I don’t make so much money I have to categorize it like the big boys do every month (to attract readers? to brag? to make readers feel like failures? I’m slowing beginning to think some of those guys might be assholes or something. And I didn’t see google take the big shot at them either, despite their money making ways) Google is a bunch of assholes who want a monopoly on the market, and I don’t think the blogging community is going to let them fuck with them like that. 3P has their RealRank already, and I won’t be at all surprised to see other stuff coming up the pipeline. Google, I think you just made a fatal mistake. Helen, you do whatever the hell you want, and give Google a slap in the face. What a bunch of assholes. Did I say that already?
I went from a PR5 to a PR3 and I got a little disappointed since Google thinks they own the internet. But I say screw them (I gave them a toilet award on my site :P) and I will continue to do whatever I want, paid or not
Keep la. Nothing like seeing your hardwork go to waste.
A big thank you to all of you who took time to share your thoughts.
I’ve not decided on anything yet so I’ll play by the ear.
Thanks again for all your insightful thoughts. If I don’t get to see you people again before X’mas, here’s an early Christmas greetings to you and your family.
A very merry Christmas to you too!
For me, I will definately keep my keeyit.com as I write blog to share my daily stuffs with friends. BUT for earning money, maybe open a new blog for that ?
It’s funny, I’ve been blogging for years even before I’ve learned how to get traffics into it. I never really shield away from lack of audience, although I do believe it’s healthier to blog for writers when they’re getting feedbacks. Blogging is a passion for most of us, and the readers come right after. Our priorities of having one is because we could have a place to put all our writings. So yes, to answer your question, I’d keep my blog no matter what.
Besides, I never know you could have a PR for it. I just thought it’s something you do for yourself :).
Great post hun!
I’ve been thinking long and hard about this too - obviously I’ve started a new blog since one of mine got smacked from PR4 back down to 0. I guess the bigger question is - traffic-wise, has anything changed? I haven’t been delisted, so the traffic I get on that blog is basically the same. And I’m always learning more ways to bring traffic to different sites - but honestly I wasn’t all that concerned about PR to begin with. There are plenty of ways to monetize my blogs over and above paid blog reviews, so I will be exploring these and trying each of them with my original blog as a control.
I guess the short version of that comment is - I’m going to completely ignore PR going forward and concentrate on just building an audience.
